Modern Writers, Brian John
Brian John (b.1940) Writer and novelist, Brian John, was born in Carmarthenshire and now lives near Newport. His ‘ Angel Mountain’ saga, commenced in 2001 and completed in 2005, comprises five books, which follow the life and times, from 1796 to 1855, of the fictional Martha Morgan. The first novel by Brian John, On Angel Mountain, was followed by House of Angels and Dark Angel. The final two titles were Rebecca and the Angels and Flying with Angels. The books, initially published by Greencroft Books, have now been bought by Corgi, who will publish the series at six-monthly intervals. The Pembrokeshire setting and, in particular, the sacred mountain of Carningli are a significant part of the narrative and the historical background is meticulously researched. The area in which the books are set has become a place of pilgrimage for many of Brian John ‘s readers and the author himself leads occasional ‘literary walks’ on Angel Mountain during the summer.
