Russell T Davies (b.1963) TV scriptwriter, born in Swansea, who made the transition from producing for the BBC to scriptwriting with a highly-regarded six-part drama serial for children, Dark Season, starring the young Kate Winslet. Russell T Davies’s subsequent work included a BAFTA Children’s Award-winning episode for Granada’s Children’s Hospital. The groundbreaking Queer as Folk, which attracted controversy and praise in equal measure when it was screened on Channel 4 in early 1999, was followed by a sequel in 2000 and a highly successful version for the US. Further television work included the mini-series, Bob and Rose, and the religious telefantasy drama, The Second Coming. Current work includes Mine All Mine, set in Mumbles, a series about the life of Casanova and a film version of the Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? cheating major. Russell T Davies is also chief writer and executive producer of the much-heralded BBC Wales’ revival of Doctor Who.
