Swansea Museum, housed in an impressive neo-classical Grade II listed building, is home to some of the regions most exciting treasures.
Swansea Museum is actually the oldest museum in Wales, having been opened by local people as far back as 1841. Originally the Royal Institution of South Wales, Swansea Museum now offers a journey of discovery, covering local history and worldwide artifacts. There’s an incredibly broad range of exhibits over 6 galleries: You can wonder at an Egyptian mummy, bought to the Swansea Museum long ago, or indeed consider the historical context of a Welsh kitchen. The Swansea Museum always has many temporary exhibitions on a broad range of subjects and also offers refreshments and has an interesting shop.
Swansea Museum is located in the busy shopping district in the heart of the City, which means that you can drop into the museum as part of your visit to Wales’ second city, lapping up a little history and culture amongst the shopping. Entry to the museum is free.
